The Martin Youth Wrestling program’s season ended on a high note earlier this month.
The whirlwind finish included:
• Two first place team trophies at the Maple Valley and Holt tournaments. Martin captured nine first places and one second at Maple Valley.
• Fourteen wrestlers qualified for the MYWAY State Championships Tournament.
• The team finished ninth in the state tournament of kids who wrestled a state (includes all schools and private wrestling clubs in the state).
• Two brothers, Carson Blum (37 pounds) and Jackson Blum (55 lbs.) were state champions.
Other local grapplers qualifying or taking places at state were 40 lbs., Urijah Joostburns sixth place; 43 lbs, Zaiden Buell; 77 lbs., Jacskon Andrews, sixth; 55 lbs., Kaiden Waldron, second; 58 lbs., Kyle Fennema; 61 lbs., Jayce Ritchie, fourth; 63 lbs., Trent Kimmel; 80 lbs., Jakub Wayman; 85 lbs., Gabe Myers; 85 lbs, Willie Prowse, third; 90 lbs. James Hildebrand, sixth, and heavyweight, JeeseJame Roe.
In all, Martin had eight wrestlers place in the state tourney.
