Wayland High School athletes freshman Evie Mathis and senior Breanna Hyde Evie both earned all-state accolades Saturday at the Michigan Indoor Track Series (MITS) meet.

Mathis, who last year won the pole vault for all junior high track athletes in Michigan, overcame recent injuries to clear 12’0″ again (on her first attempt). She came in second to Division 1 East Kentwood senior Victoria Spitzley, who cleared 12-6.

The meet included all high school divisions combined and the top eight finishers in their events earn All-State honors for indoor season.

Hyde finished in sixth place in the long jump at 16-10.7 to earn her All-State award.
