
Helen Kay Van Domelen died Monday, April 27. She was 90 years old.
Helen enjoyed spending time in her garden, sewing, quilting and reading. She was musically gifted, playing the piano, singing, and even directing the choir at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for more than 10 years.
Helen also loved to paint. She would paint landscapes, watercolors, and portraits of each of her grandchildren.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State College in 1969. She went on to teach math at Kelloggsville High School for 17 years, as well as coaching cheerleading for many years.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Gordon Van Domelen; parents Charles and Sidney Rumsey; and brother, David Rumsey.
She is survived by her children Timothy (Rosemary) Van Domelen, Thomas (Candee) Van Domelen, and Jeffrey Van Domelen; grandchildren Sarah Van Domelen, Julie Van Domelen (Scott Fleming), Genevieve Van Domelen (Drew Nelson), Christopher Van Domelen, Jonathan (Sarah) Van Domelen, and Kathryn (Kyle) Ritsema; great-grandchildren Juniper Van Domelen, Avery Ritsema, George Fleming, Elwood Van Domelen, Olivia Ritsema, Mabel Nelson, Frances Fleming, three on the way; and lifelong friend, Helen Louise Noble.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Gun Lake Community Church, 12200 W. M-179 Hwy.
