Memorial service Sept. 24 for Catherine Smith-Yoder

Catherine Ann (Smith-Yoder) Noordyke died Monday, Aug. 1, at her home. She was 67.

Born Dec. 10, 1954, to Paul Smith and Lois (Morgenstern) Boniface, Catherine attended and graduated from Delton High School and then enlisted in the Navy. She met and married her husband, Joseph, in 2006.

Cathi enjoyed fishing, jig saw puzzles, traveling, chocolate, old westerns and gambling. She was a member of the Wayland UFW Post 7581 for numerous years and served as president of the Women’s Auxiliary.

Catherine is survived by her husband Joseph, two daughters, Lori (Kenneth) West and Leila Clardy, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She is also survived by siblings Deborah (Steven) Boerner, Paula Knowlton, Rebecca Gray, Anton Smith, Brian (Karen) Smith, Paul Smith, Brenda (Joseph) Warner and numerous nieces and nephews.

Catherine is preceded in death by her parents Paul Smith and Lois (Morgentern) Boniface and niece Jennifer Miller.

A memorial service will be held on Sept. 24, at noon at the American Legion Boat and Canoe (401 N. Park St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525) with a luncheon to follow. Catherine’s ashes will be scattered by the family at a later date in Mount Scott, Okla.

    Cathy was a wonderful person. she along with her family did so much for the Wayland VFW. Worked side by side with her and her Dad DOC sister Paula. The world lost a true American.
