Mendon came up with a last-minute score to edge Martin 26-22 Saturday afternoon in the second round of the MHSAA post-season football playoffs.
The verdict ended Martin’s bid for a third straight state championship in eight-man football.
Both the Hornets and Clippers entered the contest with 9-1 records overall and the two teams were very similar.
The Clippers captured the Division 1 eight-man titles in 2022 and in 2023, the latter with last second heroics by QB Gabe Meyers. This time Martin was the victim.
The Clippers lost this regular season only once, 20-14 to Gobles, but turned the tables on the Tigers last weekend with a convincing 52-22 revenge victory.
