Former Wayland High School standout running back Mike Miklusicak was injured during preseason practice and is out for his entire season at Hope College..

Miklusicak and teammate Brandan Campbell last season rushed for more than a 1,000 yards for the Flying Dutch in 2016. Campbell,  senior from Otsego, donned jersey No. 22 for Hope’s opener Saturday, the number usually worn by Miklusicak.

“It was tough seeing him go down in camp just because last year we were the first duo to put up 1,000 yards together,” Campbell told an MLive reporter. “We’re like co-pilots, we feed off each other. It’s tough, but at the same time I just wanted to wear this jersey so it’s like he’s out there with me and we’re just doing it again.”

Miklusicak was Wayland’s top runner in its last playoff season in 2013.
