Mitchell Gabriele is the new athletic director for Martin Public Schools, succeeding Tyler Whitcomb, who was promoted to high school principal.
A graduate of Adrian College in 2014 with a bachelor of arts degree, he earned his masters in athletic administration in 2020 from Ohio University. He recently served as associate athletic director at Grand Haven High School. He is a Registered Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA.
Gabriele previously coached varsity football, basketball and was the head varsity baseball coach for five seasons at Hillsdale High School, where he established a new middle school baseball program. He coached three seasons at Grand Haven High School, during two of the seasons, the Buccaneers qualified for the MHSAA playoffs.
Some of his career highlights as a coach include two undefeated regular-season basketball teams, a conference and a district basketball championship while at Hillsdale.
For the past three seasons, Gabriele has been a registered high school basketball official for the West Michigan Officials Association, which is part of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).
While prepping at Hillsdale High School, he achieved all-state honors in football, basketball and baseball. He attended Adrian College, where he was a four-year starter and co-captain for the Adrian College football team, where he set two school records at the receiver position with 15 receptions in one game and 63 receptions in one season. He also participated for two seasons with the Adrian College men’s basketball program.
He and his wife Alyssa live in Holland.
