Ethan Nagel pitched a three-hit shutout in the nightcap as Hopkins earned a split of a doubleheader Thursday with Forest Hills Eastern.

The Vikings took game two 3-0 after being edged 2-1 in an eight-inning heartbreaker in the opener.

Nagel allowed just three hits in seven innings of work, striking out six.

Nagel and James Wubben each drove in one run to lead the offensive effort and the Vikings didn’t commit a single error in the field. Brenden Gossman had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.

Hopkins lost the lead late in a 2-1 defeat in the first game. The Vikings led 1-0 until the seventh and finally lost in the top in of the eighth. Alex Steffes suffered the hard-luck loss on the mound.

Terry Thomas led Hopkins with two hits in two at bats.

Hopkins now is 12-3-1 overall for the season.
