The second group of inductees into the Hopkins High School Athletic Hall of Fame has been announced.
The newest four members of the select group are retired football coach Rex Weaver, community boosters Dennis and Judy Kennedy, basketball player and coach Tracy Hazen Iciek and members of the 1999 football team that was state runner-up.
The selectees will be honored at halftime of the Hopkins varsity football game at home Friday, Sept. 15, against Wyoming Godwin Heights. They also will be honored at a special buffet dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, and the high school cafeteria with an individual cost of $20. The induction ceremony will follow at 7 p.m.
The group was selected by a special committee that was formed in the spring of 2016 to name the first group.
The first class of Hopkins High School inductees were Joseph Roxbury, Class of 1931; Jim Hazen, Class of 1949; Jerry Herp, 1957; Jim Newell, 1966 (coach 1970-2010); Karen Caywood Schwartz, 1977; Kris Knobloch, 1989; Tim Kisner, 1997; Sabrina Bird Mertes; Coach Al Deal and community member Carol Guy.
How can the name Eugene Knobloch be left out of the list? Central Michigan football lineman, Central Michigan graduate, teacher for years at Wayland High School.
