Nicki Cardosa, coach and teacher at Wayland High School, has been named an assistant coach of the year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

She won a state-level award for assistant coach earlier this year.

“I think she is the best assistant coach, but this award proves it!” Said Wayland head varsity softball coach Cheri Ritz. “She helps cultivate a positive team culture. Together we are on the same mission and we share the same purpose. She is a leader, who is passionate about our program and what we stand for… I love having her by my side and on my side, on and off the field.”

Cardoso and Ritz have guided the Lady Wildcats to two state championships, numerous regional titles and a boatload of district crowns.

Cardosa herself was a standout volleyball, softball and basketball player during her prep years at Wayland.

She and her husband, Nathan, have a son and daughter who attend Wayland schools.
