The Otsego Bulldog Invitational was unkind to the Wayland and Hopkins cross-country teams Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats checked in 19th among 21 teams and Hopkins suffered the indignity of being last. Wayland boys were last among 20 teams.

O-K Gold Conference rivals East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills Eastern and Grand Rapids Christian went 1-2-3 in the girls’ meet with 38, 123 and 133 team points, respectively. Wayland’s score was 478, two points better than Allegan, and Hopkins finished with 618.

Freshman Olivia Barabas again led the Lady Wildcats, taking 39th place with a 20:23.4. She was followed by Gracie Hasse in 94th, Hannah Smith 105th, Naomi Oosterhouse 121st and Serenna VanHouten 126th.

Freshman Hannah Fisher paced the Lady Vikings in 110th place at 22:57.4, followed by Astrid Baandrup in 122nd, Mary Wells 125th, Alexis Zalis 127th and Joy Athearn, 140th.

Hopkins was hampered by the absence of its top runner, senior Alyssa Beilby.

Host Otsego won the boys’ race with 82 points, Grand Rapids Christian second and East Grand Rapids third. Wayland’s point total was 608.

Senior Ian Russell was the first Wildcat boy to finish, at 19:05.4 in 99th place. Devin Weaver 119th, Steve Mosher 124th, Sam Garheden 133rd and Jared Jandernoa 137th. Adam Ball, Andrew Hazen, Zachary Wisser and Dean Heiden ran for the Viking boys, but five are needed to register a team score.

The Wildcats’ top runner, freshman Travis Koon

, and Hopkins’ ace harrier, Todd Henley, did not run.
