The Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball team lost a tough non-league contest at home Thursday night to Portage Central, 64-50.

The Vikings led at halftime by three, 29-26, but didn’t shoot well in the second half, while Portage Central caught fire from beyond the arc.

Grant Pikkaart finished with 26 points for the Mustangs and led all scorers. Drew Weber led the Vikings with 14 points, Tyler Zomerlei finished with 13, and Colin Weber, fighting a high fever and chills all day, finished with 11.

Hopkins, now 2-2 on the season overall, will be back in action Friday night (Dec. 20) at Allendale in another non-conference encounter.
