Former Wayland High School basketball star Presley Hudson last weekend was selected most valuable player in the Junkanoo Jam women’s collegiate basketball tournament in the Bahamas.
Hudson became only the fourth player in Central Michigan University women’s hoops history to make all of her three-point field goal attempts (minimum of four), going five for five and scoring 23 points to lead the Chippewas to an 81-60 victory over Iowa State in the tourney finals.
Hudson and Cassie Breen combined for 45 points to spearhead CMU’s
fourth straight win. They opened the Jam with an 85-76 win over San Diego State Friday and captured the tourney title Saturday night.
Hudson leads the team in scoring, averaging 21.6 points per game. She has converted on 49% of of her three-point field goal attempts in five games and she has made 100% (19 for 19) of her free throws.
CMU is scheduled to return home on Thursday (7 p.m.) for a non-conference game with Aquinas (5-3).
Coach Sue Guevara’s group opened the season with a loss to Purdue, but the Chippewas since have won their last four contests.
Hudson, daughter of Wayland head varsity basketball coach Mike Hudson, was an all-state performer for the Lady Wildcats as a senior and she was runner-up in the Miss Basketball balloting statewide in 2015.
