ls’ track team had to take on O-K Gold Conference rival Hastings Wednesday without about a third of its members, who were taking part instead in the New York City trip by the WHS Orchestra.
“Many girls maxed out in four events!” noted coach Ray Antel. “We put up a good fight, but came up short.”
Despite being horribly short-handed, there were few highlights in the 83-53 loss to the Saxons:
The girls 4 x 800 team of Zoe Antel, Kaitlyn Paul, Mickala Kohtz and Maggie Whitney won with a time of 11:19.23.
The Lady Wildcats swept the 100-meter hurdles with Lauryn Spencer, Hannah Damveld, and Alexys Johnson running 17.39, 19.31, and 19.95, respectively. Spencer and Jazmyn Santos also took second and third in the 100.
Maggie Whitney and Zoe Antel took first and third in the 1600 with times of 5:45.84 and 5:58.77. Whitney, Kohtz, and Antel swept the 800 with times of 2:40.16, 2:47.4, and 2:48.54, respectively.
The 400 relay with Haley Bilger, Brittany Ludwig, Spencer, and Santos took first with a time of 57.23 seconds.
Damveld took third in the 400 with a time of 69.87. Johnson took second in the 300H in 59.19 with Savannah VanHouten hot on her heels with a time of 60.61.
Bilger took second in the 200 (29.73) and Damveld was third. Kohtz took second in the 3200 with a time of 13:59.47 while Paul ran 14:56 to take 3rd.
Ludwig took third in the high jump with a leap of 4’8″ in her first time. Hannah Rybiski, took third in the shot put with a put of 23’6″.
