The Wayland boys’ varsity track team placed third in a field of 14 teams at the Division 2 track regionals at Mason. The girls were ninth in a 15-team field.
Mason won the boys’ meet with 99 points, Wayland had 83. Parma Western won the girls’ competition with 118.5 points and Wayland finished with 32.
The Wildcat boys scored heavily in the sprints, as junior Ian Thompson won the 100-meter dash at 11.37 seconds, edging teammate Tim Wierckz, who came in at 11.41. Wierckz later came back to win the 200 in 23.02 seconds.
Thompson, Cainon Fenn, Austin Reeder and Wiercz hooked up to win the 400-meter relay in 44.7 seconds and the 800 relay in 1:33.2.
Reeder also had a pretty good day in the hurdles, taking fifth in the 110-meter highs and fourth in the 300-meter intermediates.
Carson Noyes added a fourth in the shot put at 43-11 and a second in the discus at 137-0. Teammate Bronson Huyck was fourth in the discus. Thompson added a fifth in the long jump. Devin Weaver placed sixth in the 800.
Sophomore Breanna Hyde had the best individual finish for the Lady Wildcats by leaping 16-01 in the long jump to take second.
Freshman Eliot Antel was fourth in the 400-meter run. Sophomore Faith Rollandini took fifth in the 200.
Hyde, Antel, Taylor Wolf and Rollandini hooked up to finish third in the 1600 relay.
