Sydney Urben qualifies again for state, but ‘Cats don’t

Wayland High School bowling ace Sydney Urben will make her third trip to the state Division 2 bowling tournament Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4, at the Canton Super Bowl.

The Lady Wildcats’ bowling team, however, finished fourth for the second straight season to miss a trip to state by one place. The Wayland boys’ team finished 13th among the 17 teams.

Urben, a junior, was state runner-up a year ago and she finished second in the regional meet at Vicksburg Saturday. She finished with 1,193 pins, second only to Jackson’s Kaylee Collier, a senior, who collected 1,282. Urben bowled a 201 or higher in two games with a 224 in game four.

Charlotte, Jackson and Coldwater placed ahead of the Lady Wildcats, who surprisingly finished nearly 400 pins behind third-place Coldwater. Wayland, O-K Gold/Green Conference champion, completed the season with a dual match record of 16-2-1.
