Former Lady Wildcat Mallory Teunissen pitched and won the second game of a doubleheader against the University of Michigan-Dearborn over the weekend, enabling Davenport to take over first place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Conference.
DU capped their sweep of the Wolverines with a seven-run seventh. Alyssa Koziol sparked the comeback with a triple in the fourth inning to left field that scored Lauren French and the DU offense came alive. Lindsay Tasma capped the DU fifth inning with a home run to left field as the Panthers ran out to a three-run lead. Koziol would cap the DU offensive onslaught with a three-run home run in the seventh inning as the Panthers ran away with a 15-4 win.
Junior pitcher Emily Maves (18-4) dominated game one for DU with a complete game and 13 strikeouts. She struck out the side in the first inning and in turn set the new school record for strikeouts in a season (220). She held the Wolverines in check as the teams battled into extra innings.
DU then took over the lead in the top of the ninth inning. Lauren French knocked a double to center that scored Nicole Vitale and Carli SanMillan. Koziol followed with a single to center field that scored Alyssa Eastman and DU took a 5-2 lead.
