Wayland all-state golfing whiz Ali Martus stretched her amazing sub-40, sub-80 streak to nine matches Wednesday, but even better news was that the Wildcats recorded their best nine-hole team score of the season.
Wayland’s 188 was good for third place at the latest O-K Gold Conference jamboree in competition held at the Yankee Springs Golf Club, the home course of Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.
The ‘Cats actually tied Grand Rapids South Christian for second place, but had to settle for third because of the tie-breaker rule. Hastings won with a 177.
Martus carded a 37, easily capturing individual medalist honors, as she has done all season. She has broken 40 in all her nine-hole contests and has broken 80 in all her 18-hole matches.
Her supporting cast gets better all the time. Alexis Kirschbaum came in with a 47, Hunter Fenton with a 51, and Lauren Drew a 53.
The Wildcats have finished either third or fourth in all three O-K Gold jamborees this season.
Wayland will face Zeeland West Thursday in a non-league dual match.
