Thin ranks, youth challenges for Hopkins C-C at jamboree

Jasmine Fisher ran for four years at Hopkins. Her younger sister Hannah led the Vikings Wednesday.

It was a rough O-K Silver Conference opener for Hopkins Wednesday at the home course of Wyoming Lee.

The Vikings boys were unable to field a full team and were missing top runner Todd Henley. The Lady Vikings placed third among five teams in the freshman/sophomore division. The Hopkins girls checked in with 70 team points. Calvin Christian won with 26 and Belding was runner-up with 58.

They were third of three in the junior-senior division, but won the two-mile middle school competition.

Freshman Hannah Fisher led the Vikings with a five-kilometer time of 23:39.47, good for fifth place. Fellow frosh runner Mary Wells was seventh, Joy Athearn 14th, Arianna DeGroot 24th and Emily Tunstill 25th.Senior Alyssa Beilby took ninth in her division and Alexis Zalis was 12th.

Andrew Hazen was the only Hopkins boys who ran in the junior-senior division. He finished 17th.

In the boys’ frosh and sophomore race, sophomore Adam Ball took ninth in 21:08.10.
