Senior ace sprinter Ian Thompson had another big day Saturday, as Wayland boys won the Hopkins Invitational and the girls were runners-up.
Thompson set a new school record in the 200-meter dash, won the 100, ran the anchor on the winning 400-meter relay team and was first in the long jump.
The Wildcat boys amassed 116 points, 53 more than runner-up Sparta. Hopkins checked in fifth with 57.5 points.
Allendale won the girls’ competition with 123 points and Wayland was second with 96. Hopkins was fourth with 85 points. There were nine teams in both competitions.
Thompson crossed the finish line in 10.98 seconds in the 100 and teammate Kaharrie Pureifoy was second in 11.52. Thompson streaked to a 22.22-second school record time in the 200 and Pureifoy again was second, in 23.06. He anchored the 400 relay, joining Cainon Fenn, Pureifoy and Cam Mouketou in 45.21 seconds. He scored a first in the long jump at 20-3.
Wildcat Junior Devin Weaver captured the open 800 in 2:06.16, winning by a half second and he came back to win the 1600 in 4:44.08.
Travis Koon, Dylan Pallett, Henry Oudbier and Weaver claimed the 300-meter relay in 8:41.9.
Carson Noyes performed his personal best in winning the shot put at 47-0.5. and he took the discus at 138-8, with teammate Bronson Huyck taking third. Viking Mason Tomes was fourth.
For Hopkins, Logan Klinge was second in the pole vault, Masen Wilson of Wayland was third and Tanner Neuman fourth.
Hopkins freshman Kambria Moored continues to excel in the hurdles, as she won the 100-meter highs in 17.10 seconds and Wayland’s Breanna Hyde was third. Moored came back to win the 300 intermediates in 49.53 seconds and Hyde was runner-up.
Viking standout Grace Brenner continued to dominate the shot put, winning with a toss of 34-0. She settled for third in the discus.
Wildcat freshman Kennedy Jasinski turned in her personal best performance in the pole vault, clearing 10-0. Hyde captured a first in the long jump at 15-8.5.
Sophomore Jaeden Harshbarger came up withg a second in the high jump.
Two Wayland relay teams, with Ellliot Antel, Faith Rollandini, Olivia Barbas and Ava Makowski, finished second. Noelle House ran in the 3200 relay with all but Rollandini.
