Three Rivers ends Wildcat win streak at 20 in a row

The Wayland varsity softball winning streak of 20 games ended Saturday in a 4-3 loss to Three Rivers in the second game of the Wayland Quad.

The Lady Wildcats once were only 3-2 overall, but reeled off 20 consecutive victories before being edged by the visiting Wildcats.

Wayland won its first game of the day, 4-2 over Parchment.

Emma Ludema took the loss on the mound, and her consecutive streak of no-hit innings ended.. Leading the Wildcat attack was Reese Veltman, going 3-for-3,. Emma Tornes, Grace Kincaid, Kaelyn Sikkema, Emma Ludema, Kayla Reed and Kylie Mutschler each added a hit. Ludema hit a double, with three RBIs.

Ludema took the victory on the mound over Parchment. Leading the Wildcat offensive attack was Kayla Reed, going 2-for-2, with a single and a double, with two RBIs. Tornes, Sikkema, Ludema, Kylie Mutschler and Rya VanderKooi, all had singles.

The Lady Wildcats will try to finishing the O-K Gold Conference with a spotless 14-0 record by being host to Monday Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills. They’ll have several other non-league contests in preparation for their Saturday, June 5, Division 2 district tournament at the home field.
