Three Wildcat softball alums’ seasons are winding down at the collegiate level, and one, Davenport pitcher Mallory Teunissen, is concluding a remarkable career altogether.
The other two, freshman teammate Abby Merice and Aquinas sophomore Leigh Morse still have three and two years left, respectively.
Teunissen is finishing her career with impressive statistics:
- Second lowest earned run average,1.82.
- Third lowest oppnents’ battling average, 218.
- Third most pitching victories ,65.
- Third most appearances, 92.
- Third most shutouts, 22.
- Third most innings pitched, 549.2.
- Third most strikeouts, 520.
A 2015 graduate of Wayland High School and a Division 2 all-state selection and voted best prep pitcher that year, she earned first team honors for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-star team, was all-Wolverine-Hoosier Conference first team, and was an NCAA Academic All-American.
In her senior season she put together a 17-9 record with an ERA of 2.93, as the Panthers went 32-21.
Merice, who graduated from Wayland High School in 2018, batted .390 while playing infield and drilled three homers, driving in 35. She was a freshman of Wayland’s Division 2 state championship team in 2015 while Teuissen was a senior.
Morse, a sophomore catcher for the Saints, earned all-WHAC first team honors, clouting seven home runs, hit .319 and Aquinas fashioned a 33-18 overall record.
