Todd Henley

Hopkins senior ace cross-country runner Todd Henley finally was back in action Tuesday at the O-K Gold Conference meet and helped his team finish in fourth place.

The Viking boys, with Henley sidelined for most the season with an injury, had been unable to field a full team of five runners and therefore did not have a team score in many competitions. But this time, with their ace back in action, they were able to sneak in ahead of Wyoming Lee by five points.

The Hopkins girls’ team placed third, meanwhile, as they have done all season in league meets.

Henley recorded a fine time of 17:16.79 for the 5K run at the Ironwood Golf Course. Adam Ball came in 18th in 19:23.68, Andrew Hazen was 41st, Dean Heiden 61st and Zachary Wisser 63rd.

Calvin Christian won the league meet with 24 points and Belding had 78.

In the girls’ meet, senior Alyssa Beilby led the way in 15th place at 21:53.42. Astrid Baandrup was was 19th, Alexis Zalis 20th, Joy Athearn 27th and Arianna DeGroot 28th.

Calvin Christian ran away with the meet with 20 points and Belding had 53 and Hopkins 74.
