Wayland and Hopkins High School varsity football teams will play their regular season finales Friday at 7 p.m., but Martin’s contest will be kicked off at 5 p.m.

Many ballgames earlier this season were moved to 5 p.m. in an effort to avoid the prime time for mosquitoes, which have been blamed for an EEE outbreak that even has caused the deaths of three humans in Michigan. However, many school and health officials now believe the treat of mosquito bites has been significantly reduced after the first frost.

So Wayland will have its annual Parents Night game at 7 p.m., with the recognition ceremony starting at 6:30 at Ron Stehouwer Stadium.

Hopkins gridders will make a long trip to Petosky to play non-league opponent Menominee at 7 p.m. The Vikings will be looking to complete the regular season with an undefeated record of 9-0.

Martin also is shooting for an unbeaten season, taking its 8-0 on the line against a Climax-Scotts outfit that has lost only once, to state powerhouse Colon. That game will begin at 5 p.m. at Climax-Scotts.
