Two Hopkins, 1 Wayland harriers compete at state

Two Hopkins harriers and one from Wayland Saturday took part in the Michigan High School Athletic Association cross-country championships at Michigan International Speedway near Brooklyn.

Wayland High School junior Dylan Pallett came in 92nd in the boys’ Division 2 state finals with a career best time of 16:39.7.

Hopkins sophomore Jack Estelle crossed the finish line in 18:16, good for 218th place.

There were 252 boys runners on the course for the day.

Forest Hills Eastern, which won the O-K Gold Conference title last month, took top state honors and Pinckney was second and East Grand Rapids third.

Viking senior Jaeden Harshberger just missed breaking the 20-minute barrier for five kilometers, checking in with a time of 20:02.4. She finished 102nd in the girls’ race. There were 250 runners in the competition.

Grand Rapids Christian emerged as the girls’ Division 2 state champion with 112 points. Otsego was runner-up with 131.
