Two Lady ‘Cats hammer homers in ‘Slam’ tourney

Sophomore third sacker Kayla Reed (left) and senior outfielder Ally Longstreet both drilled a home run during the four games Wayland’s softball team played Saturday in the Muskegon Grand Slam tournament.

Wayland played against Forest Hills Eastern, Muskegon Oakridge, Spring Lake and Zeeland West.

The Lady Wildcats hammered Forest Hills Eastern 17-1 in three innings and beat Zeeland West 11-7. They lost to state-ranked Spring Lake 7-4 in eight innings and Muskeon Oakridge.

Highlights, other than the two homers, included offensive fireworks from Emma Ludema, Kennedy Cole and Grace Kincaid vs. Zeeland West, Emma Tornes against Spring Lake, Ludema and Rya VanderKooi vs. Oakridge and Lauren Chiaramonte and Cole (four stolen bases) Muskegon Oakridge
