Two Martin wrestlers and one from Wayland will wrestle for state championships in their weight divisions Saturday.
For Martin, Logan Gilbert (106 lbs.) and Haylen Buell (132) grappled their way to the championship match in Division 4 and Wayland’s Lane Button (150) will go for the gold in Division 2 as well.
It’ll be Gilbert vs. Jordan Zambon (Riverview Gabriel) in the championship match.
In Round 1 he defeated Landon Weber (Manistique) by fall at 1:33. He pinned Stephen Priese (Hesperia) in 1:52 in the quarterfinals. He scored a technical fall over Blake Wendling (New Lothrup), 19-4, in the semis.
Buell will wrestle Logan Mears (Union City) in championship match.
In Round 1 he pinned Gus Carper (Inland Lakes) in 3:29. He won by fall in the quarterfinals at 1:40 over Aiden Turner (Perry) by fall at 1:40. He then decisioned Alex Boyer (Union City) by decision 9-2 in the semifinals.
For Wayland, Button will take on Fabian Facundo (Freeland) in the championship match.
In Round 1, he pinned Vladimir Uhlik (Jefferson) at 2:52. He scored his second pin of the day in the quarterfinals at 4:12 over Landon Moreland (Three Rivers). He registered his third pin in the semifinals in 1:50 over Noah Hall (Lake Fenton).
Other Martin state qualifiers:
120 – Cole Reitz (guaranteed at least sixth place and all-state selection). Round 1 – defeated Iverson Espinoza-Rojo (Addison) by fall at 2:56. Quarterfinal – defeated Benjamin Deridder (Benzie Central) by decision 9-3. Semifinal – lost to Nicholas Sorrow (Hudson) by fall at 1:00
144 – Jack Bagwell (guaranteed at least eighth place and all-state selection).
Round 1 – lost to Jericho Holmes (Pine River) by decision, 4-2. Consolation Round 1 – defeated Korbyn Smith (Munising) by fall at 4:58. Consolation Round 2 – defeated Evin Everett (Leslie) by decision, 7-0.
215 – Sam Bleeker.
Round 1 – lost to Landon Swanson (Charlevoix) by decision, 8-0. Consolation Round 1 – lost to Ramon Anguiano (St Louis) by sudden victory 6-4.

113 – Maximum Pigeon (guaranteed at least eighth place and all-state selection. Round 1 – defeated Kolten Weiler (Whitehall) by decision, 5- Quarterfinal – lost to Mason Haines (Dundee) by technical fall, 20-4. Consolation Round 2 – defeated Ethan Trumble (Mt Morris) by fall at 3:34.
126 – Colton Kennedy, Round 1 – lost to Drew Hansen (Gladstone) by fall at 3:57. Consolation Round 1 – defeated Alex Russo (Grant) by decision, 7-5. Consolation Round 2 – lost to Gage Rothman (Blissfield) by fall at 4:52.
138 – Caden Brown, Round 1 – lost to Michael Wilson (GR Catholic) by decision, 9-2. Consolation Round 1 – defeated Cameron Dundas (Kingsley) by fall at 2:12. Consolation Round 2 – lost to Lukas Leonard (Madison) by decision, 6-4.
