Viking boys 2nd, girls victims of stange scoring cross meet

The Hopkins boys settled for runner-up in the latest O-K Silver Conference cross-country jamboree, this one at the Camp Jijak facility in Hopkins Township.

The girls, meanwhile, got caught in a strange buzzsaw of five Silver teams separated by only about 20 points and wound up fifth.

The Viking guys checked in 62 points, 15 behind meet winner Belding.

Junior Jack Estelle, as usual, led Hopkins with a fourth-pace finish at 17:46.89. Right behind him was freshman sensation Kash Moored who was fifth in 18:10.76.

Kenyon Katje took eighth in 19:02.77, Isaiah Robinson came in 21st and Gavin Schans 24th.

Grandville Calvin Christian won the girls’ race with 56 team points, Fruitport was just a point behind, NorthPointe was third with 67, Belding had 77 and Hopkins finished with 78.

Kambria Moored was the top runner for the Lady Vikings, finishing seventh in 22:16.11. She was followed by Allison Breining in 10th, Lillian Dewey 12th Navaya Ingle 23rd and freshman Tuesday Stevens 28th.
