The Hopkins boys’ varsity bowling team Monday afternoon continued its winning ways with a 28-2 victory over league opponent Belding, improving its season record to 4-0.
Unfortunately, the Vikings girls meanwhile lost by the same score and their seas0on record fell to 2-2.
The Viking boys were up 10-0 after Baker games, they bowled a 188 while Belding bowled a 180 first game, then Hopkins bowled a 122 and outlasted a 116 score from Belding.
Hopkins took four out of five encounters in match play and total pins.
High individual scores for Hopkins:
Sophomore Brenden Gossman bowled a 213, taking point, Drew Osborn took a point bowling a 188, Zach Mohr took a point bowling a 174, Joe Bala took a point bowling a 144 to his opponent’s 140. Terry Thomas lost his match by just one point to Ken Fiedler. Second game of match play Hopkins took four of 5 matches, with Gossman bowling a 201. Belding’s Ken Fiedler took another point from Jon Ryan by bowling a 157 to Ryan’s 130.
In the reversal of fortune for the Lady Vikings, Belding took all 10 points for the Baker. Then Belding took a 18-1 lead after the first match.
The only point for Hopkins in game one came from Cheyenne Miller, who won her match 135 to 107. In the second match play Hopkins got a point, with Weronika Gladka beating her opponent. Weronika is a foreign exchange student from Poland. Besides Weronika, Hopkins has two other exchange students on the team, Oleksandra Kushnirenko from the Ukraine, and Yasmin Khalil from Palestine.
“All three girls are having a fun time being on the team,” their coach reported.
