The Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball team bounced back from a tough overtime defeat in its season opener by taking out Hamilton Friday by a score of 64-55.
Coach Jake Jewett said his group started the game badly, down 10-0, but “climbed back into the game by playing more disciplined on defense and contesting their three-point shooters.”
So by halftime The Vikings had knotted the score at 29-29.
“The third quarter was big for us, as we climbed out to a 15 point lead,” the coach commented. “Tyler Zomerlei led us in scoring and had many strong plays down the stretch. Colin Weber played consistently, and Drew Weber played strong inside. Trevor Smith added some big baskets late and came up with some good defensive plays.
“Free-throw shooting and conditioning are areas of focus for us moving forward.
Hopkins, now 1-1, will play next on Tuesday at Comstock Park.
