Viking boys, girls win 2 of 3 Silver track quad contests

Both the Hopkins girls’ and boys’ varsity track teams won two out of three in an O-K Silver Conference quad meet they hosted Tuesday. Both local groups defeated Calvin Christian and Kelloggsville, but lost to Sparta.

Trent Baugh captured first place in the 400-meter run with a time of 54.81 seconds and teammate Noah Corneille was right behind him in 55.94. Baugh also win the long jump at 19-9.

Noah and Miles Corneille, Alexander Chavez and Landen Kline combined efforts to win the 800-meter relay in 1:38.94. The 1600 relay quartet of Baugh, Miles Corneille, Jacob Holder and Noah Corneille just missed the top spot, but was edged by Sparta by just 15 hundredths of a second at 3:41.58.

Mason Tomes took first in the shot put with a toss of 41-7 and Aiden Janowsky was third. Tomes and Janowsky were second and third, respectively, in the discus.

Landen Klinge captured first place in the pole vault at 11-6.

Isaac Koperski was second in the high jump.

Two Hopkins freshmen, Riley Homrich and Ellarie Baugh, went 1-2 in the 100-meter dash, in 13.62 and 13.94, respectively. Homeric also was second in the 200.

Sophomore Kambria Moored once again emerged victorious in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 17.77 seconds and she ran away with first place in the 300 hurdles at 51.86.

The Lady Vikings won the 400-meter relay with Ava VanderVeen, Ellarie Baugh, Sierra Emaus and Riley Homrich.

Jaeden Harshberger blew away all of the competition by at least a half a foot in the high jump by clearing 4-10.

Emaus, Ellarie Baugh and Vanessa Berry swept the top three slots in the long jump, with Emaus leaping 14-11.5.
