The Hopkins girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams had successful outings against O-K Conference rival Comstock Park Tuesday.

The guys, playing in Senior Night ballgame at home, recorded a 66-48 decision to improve to 7-5 in league play and 13-6 overall.

The girls took a 54-40 triumph on the road to move their Silver record to 10-2 and they continue to battle for first place. Overall, the Lady Vikings own a 13-6 record.

Tristen Perry led all scorers in the boys’ ballgame with 22 points, and Trent Baugh added 21.

Coach Jake Jewett said, “On Senior Night, we were revved up and definitely started strong.  We did a great job early of playing with good energy, taking quality shots, and turning defense into offense.  We were able to sub early and throughout the entire game and get everyone involved.

Our eight seniors: Miles Gibson, Miles Corneille, Jayden Prather, Zander Hitzler, Noah Corneille, Trent Baugh, Caleb Bonga and Tristen Perry contributed to the victory.

The coach added, however, “Although it was a night to honor our seniors, the message in the locker room after the game was that we’re far from done.  We still have a lot to play for, and the goal is to be playing our best basketball heading into postseason play.”

An overly optimistic attempt was made for both Viking squads to play a makeup Wednesday against Wyoming Godwin Heights, but that’s in serious jeopardy because of an expected ice storm that already has called off school for Hopkins, Martin and Wayland.
