The Hopkins boys’ and girls’ bowling teams both have racked up impressive dual match records this season thus far. The boys now are 13-2 overall and the Lady Vikings are 12-3.
Hopkins boys defeated Calvin Christian 17-13 Wednesday and took down Northpointe Christian Wyoming Godwin Heights 20-10 before that.
The Vikings lost their first Baker game to Calvin Christian 182-169, but in the second Baker roared back with a Dorr Lanes house record 289 to take a 6-4 lead and capture total pins.
Hopkins took 4 out of 5 points in the first match. Zach Mohr bowled a 185, Drew Osborn rolled a 177 for the high games of the team. Terry Thomas and Ryan Hoeksema took the other two points. After the first match play, Hopkins led 14-5.
Calvin Came storming back in the second match and took 4 of 5 match points, while Brendan Gossman got the only point for the Vikings, rolling a 223. His last shot of his game won Hopkins the match, knocking down 9 pins. Hopkins took total pins of both matches by 7 pins.
Hopkins took the lead right away verses North Pointe Christian, rolling a 211 in the first Baker and a 160 in the second to take all 10 points. Hopkins took all 9 points in the first match, rolling a 963 as a team. Terry Thomas had a 235, Ryan Hoeksema rolled a 221, Drew Osborn had a 189, all three boys took a point along with Brenden Gossman and Zach Mohr. In the second match Hopkins took 3 of 5 match points as well as total pins, and total for the two matches. High scoring in the second match came from Connor Brookhouse 181.
The Hopkins boys rolled a 326 Baker combined in Bakers scored to take 10 points from Godwin Heights. After the first match play, Hopkins was ahead 17-2. Impressive scores came from Mikee Schumacher, who took a point rolling a 179 and Brenden Gossman took a point with a 205.
In the second match play, Hopkins boys took 3 points and surrendered the remaining 8 points for the match. Second match high score came from Jonathon Ryan, who rolled a 180 and took a point.
On Thursday, the Vikings lost to Class A opponent Lowell.
The Lady Vikings Wednesday dropped a tight 16-14 contest against Calvin Christian. They rolled a 174 in their first Baker game and lost the second but took total Baker pins to lead 6-4.
In the first match Hopkins took 2.5 points. Cheyenne Miller took a point with a 147, while Hazel Smith rolled an impressive 212 game. Betsy Hyde split a point with a tie game.
In the second match Hopkins girls took 2 matches and total of the second game. Hopkins girls lost total pins of both matches by 7 pins. Cheyenne Miller took a point with a 155, and Courtney Tortorelli took a point with a 117.
Hopkins girls took a commanding lead against Northpointe from the beginning of the Bakers through the first match, not surrendering a single point. So after the first match Hopkins led 19-0 and it cruised to a 24-6 victory.
Courtney Tortorelli bowled a 187, while the second high game came from Hazel Smith with a 167.
Hopkins came into the second game and got some other girls some work. Weronika bowled a 107 taking a point, while Hannah Wubben added another, and then Mackenzie took another point with a 161. Hopkins girls were really impressive with their win 24-6.
The Lady Vikings defeated Godwin 17-13. They rolled a 186 in the second Baker to take 4 points, but were down 6-4 heading into match play. The girls struggled a little bit and took only 2 points in the first match play. One point came from Jenny Rietmans 130 and the other came from Betsy Hydes 168. Hopkins was down 13-6. In the second match Hopkins took 3 of 5 match points, again one coming from Jenny Rietmans 143 and Betsy Hydes 149 and Hazel Smith took a point rolling a 176. Hopkins took total pins of the match but lost total pins of both matches by 12 pins.
