Viking boys regional bowling champs, girls take 4th

The Hopkins boys celebrate their regional championship and look forward to the Division 3 state meet next weekend.

The Hopkins boys’ bowling team captured the Division 3 regional championship Friday at M-66 Bowl in Battle Creek.

The Vikings now will go to the state tournament next weekend at Northway Lanes in Muskegon

The Lady Vikings just missed a trip by placing fourth among the 15 teams in the competition.

Hopkins boys finished first with a total of 3,739 pins, 10 more than regional runner-up Durand, and Corunna was fourth.

The Vikings were in first place after the six Baker games, rolling 152, 202, 180, 166, 180 and 193, but in the first individual game they only bowled 793 which dropped them down to fourth place. After the second individual game they rebounded nicely with a 995 and were back in first and led until the end.

Hopkins closed out with an 878 in the final individual game.

Both the Hopkins boys’ and girls’ teams last week copped the O-K Silver Conference championship.

The Lady Vikings knocked down 3,120 pins, but Portland, Quincy and Coloma finished ahead of them. The top three teams in regionals qualify for state.

Hopkins bowled Baker games of 134, 145, 124, 136, 122 and 157. In individuals, they rolled 757, 762 and 773.

The Lady Vikings went undefeated in dual matches during the season and tied Kelloggsville once. The boys, during a brief bad patch, lost to Kelloggsville and Belding.
