The Hopkins girls’ varsity cross-country team Wednesday finished fourth among seven teams in the O-K Silver Conference jamboree at Belding. The boys checked in seventh among eight.
Sparta, a new member of the Silver this year, won the boys’ competition with 37 points, host Belding had 52, followed by Calvin Christian, Comstock Park, Kelloggsville, NorthPointe Christian, Hopkins and Wyoming Lee.
Junior Trevor Shealy was the top Hopkins finisher, checking in 19th with a time of 18:49.9 over the five-kilometer course at Lightning Bend Park. Caleb Beilby was 44th, Adam Ball 47th, Dean Heiden 57th and Zachary Wisser 58th.
For the Lady Vikings, freshman Helena Kerber again led the way with a time of 21:31.9, good for 13th place. Sophomore Neveah Helderop was 28th, Alexis Zalis 34th, Abigail Zalis 37th and Mary Wells 42nd.
The Lady Vikings accumulated 131 points. Calvin Christian won with 28, Sparta had 42, Belding 72, Comstock Park 141, NorthPointe Christian 151 and Wyoming Lee 164.
Hopkins will compete in two more O-K Silver jamborees this fall, on Sept. 30 and Oct. 20.
