The Hopkins High School boys’ basketball team concluded its regular season Tuesday night with an easy 62-33 victory over visiting Delton.

The Vikings observed the last home game for eight seniors on the squad.

The verdict lifted Hopkins’ overall season record to 15-6. The team was 8-6 in the O-K Silver Conference, good for fourth place behind Calvin Christian, NorthPointe Christian and Wyoming Godwin Heights.

Senior Tristen Perry led all scorers with 21 points and surpassed 1,000 career points.

“This is an awesome milestone for him to accomplish,” said coach Jake Jewett.

“Miles Gibson, one of our seniors who has been out all season with an injury from football season, also played late in the game and knocked down a three from deep,” the coach added. “It was a ‘storybook ending’ for him, as he deserves all the praise in the world for being such an awesome teammate this season.

“We spent a lot of time honoring our eight seniors who have given so much to our team and program. The message in the locker room after the game was to enjoy tonight, and be ready to start preparing for districts tomorrow.”

In another ballgame Tuesday, Martin was edged 55-51 by Muskegon West Michigan Christian and its overall season record fell to 2-18.

Also on Tuesday night, Wayland lost 66-45 to visiting Coopersville in a non-league contest. The Broncos finished at 14-8 overall and tied for second in the O-K Blue Conference. Wayland, which will play West Michigan Aviation to close out its season, is 10-11.

The Vikings play next in the district semifinal round at Hamilton vs. Allegan in the first game at 5:30 Wednesday, March 8. The Wildcats will play at Plainwell March 8 on the Trojans’ court.
