The Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball team improved to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the O-K Silver Conference Tuesday night by breezing past Kelloggsville on the road, 74-53.
The Vikings apparently are fighting for second place in the O-K Silver Conference with NorthPointe Christian, a team they have yet to face this season. Godwin, which owns two tight victories over Hopkins, seems to be in the driver’s seat in the current standings.
About Tuesday night’s victory, coach Jake Jewett commented, “We got up to an early lead and remained ahead the whole game. It was a good game for everyone to get in and contribute to the win.
“I’m proud of the way our bench subbed in and kept the pressure on. I’m also proud of the way our guys supported one another and focused on the team instead of individual stats.”
Sharpshooting guard Kyle Pierce led all scorers with 21 points, and was deadly from beyond the arc. Colin Weber chipped in 11 points, and Tyler Zomerlei added 8.
Hopkins will return to the home court Friday to play Lee for senior night.
