Vikings beat Kent City at the home of the Whitecaps

The Hopkins varsity Vikings at 5th 3rdbaseball team beat Kent City 3-1 in seven innings Thursday in a game played at Fifth Third Park, the home of the West Michigan Whitecaps.

The Vikings, now 8-6-1 on the season, received excellent efforts from Brock Eller, who went 2-for-2 offensively and pitcher Zach Brechting, who went the distance on the mound..

Eller singled in the first inning as Hopkins scored two runs and he tripled in the fourth inning. The first inning rally saw two runs cross the plate on a groundout by Brechting and an RBI single by Eller.

Brechting kept contact to a minimum, striking out 11 Kent City batters. He allowed no earned runs, four hits and four walks over seven innings.

The Eagles scored their only run for the day in the third inning on an error.

Hopkins on Wednesday defeated Wyoming Godwin Heights 6-3 in an O-K Silver Conference encounter.
