Vikings clinch share of O-K Silver grid championship

Hopkins Friday night clinched at least a share of the O-K Silver Conference football championship with a convincing 44-0 victory at Wyoming Lee.

The Vikings roared to a 31-0 lead at intermission and coasted the rest of the way, part of the time with a running clock.

The victory lifted Hopkins’ overall season record to 7-1 and it already has qualified for the Division 5 post-season playoffs for the first time since 2014. If the Vikings can get past Kelloggsville in their regular season finale, the will claim the Silver crown all alone. Wyoming Godwin Heights, which lost to Hopkins 27-8 earlier this season, has just one loss in league play, so it’s hoping to share the title.

The Vikings’ high-powered offense this season, which features both a strong running and passing attack, has racked up 350 points in eight contests for a per-game average of 43.8.

Kelloggsville will bring a 4-4 overall record into next Friday night’s game with aspirations of upset.
