James Wubben tossed a three-hit shutout, Hopkins swept a doubleheader from Wyoming Godwin Heights Wednesday and the Vikings laid claim to the O-K Silver Conference baseball championship.
Wubben went seven scoreless innings, walked none and struck out eight on the mound in a 13-0 victory in the first game.
Hopkins scored on a groundout by Zach Brechting in the first inning and a double by Ethan Nagel in the second. The Vikings then plated six runs in the fifth inning. Highlighting the rally were a single by Broc Eller, a double by Tyler Zomerlei, a error, and a single by Ezran Tehennepe.
Hopkins had 16 hits in the game. Eller, Tehennepe, Austin Black, and Zomerlei each collected multiple hits. Zomerlei, Tehennepe, Terry Thomas, and Eller each drove in two runs. Hopkins didn’t commit a single error in the field.
Hopkins scored six runs in the third inning on its way to an 11-1 victory in the nightcap. The Vikings’ big inning was driven by a walk by Alex Steffes, a single by Ryan Hoeksema, a single by Jake Cleypool, and a groundout by Terry Thomas.
Hopkins had eight hits in the game. Alex Steffes, Ryan Hoeksema and Jake Cleypool each collected multiple hits. Terry Thomas, Cleypool, and Hoeksema each drove in three runs.
The Vikings’ overall record is now 17-4-1.
