It has become clear that this year’s battle for the O-K Silver Conference football championship will be between Comstock Park Belding and Sparta.
Hopkins’ 42-12 defeat Friday night at the hands of the visiting Panthers made that realization painfully clear. Comstock Park, with the triumph, moved to 3-0 in league play and 5-0 overall.
The Vikings, after claiming two consecutive come-from-behind victories over Godwin Heights and Kelloggsville, fell to 2-1 in the Silver and 2-3 overall.
Hopkins was able to hang in there over the first three quarters, trailing only 7-0 at the end of one and 21-6 at the half and third period. It was those last 12 minutes that really did them in.
The Vikings will resume play in the O-K Silver next Friday at Grandville Calvin Christian.
