Hopkins registered its third gridiron victory in as many tries this abbreviated season with a 22-0 decision over visiting North Pointe Christian in a game that strangely was halted abruptly in the second period.

The Vikings had just scored their third touchdown of the evening when the sudden announcement came that the ballgame was over. It was reported that NorthPointe decided to forfeit the rest of the way out of concern for the safety of its players. NorthPointe a year ago did not field a varsity football team in the O-K Silver Conference.

Hopkins scored first in the evening with 4:18 remaining on the clock on a one-yard quarterback sneak by Trevor Smith.

Then lineman Braden Miller pounced on a Mustangs’ fumble at their own 45-yard line. Smith connected with Colin Weber for a 45-yard TD pass, but it was called back because of a five-yard penalty.

No matter, Smith reconnected with Weber for a 29-yard pass to put the ball on NorthPointe’s 21. Five plays later Jaden Prather took it into the end zone from 11 yards out and Jason Sapp tallied the two-point conversion to make it 14-0.

The Mustangs inexplicably decided to go for the first down on fourth and 13 deep in their own territory and paid dearly as a result. Prather went 16 yards to pay dirt only several plays later and Miller caught the two-point conversion in what proved to be the last action for the evening.

NorthPointe found the going extremely difficult in moving the football against the stingy Vikings’ defensive unit.

Hopkins now is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the O-K Silver Conference.

I think the last 2 Hopkins touchdowns were scored by # 45, Jaden Prather. There is no Skyler on the Vikings team that I am aware of.

Thanks. I think I bungled hearing Bob Beck.
