This is a peek at the storm that temporarily halted Hopkins’ 48-14 victory over Godwin.

Neither ran, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail, nor Wyoming Godwin Heights could stop the Hopkins varsity football team from clinching at least a share of its third consecutive O-K Silver Conference title Friday night.

The Vikings scored four touchdowns and four two-point conversions in the first half, which was interrupted for a spell because of lightning during a driving rain and hailstorm. They drew first blood with the game only four minutes old, gave up a Godwin TD, answered with another eight points to go up 16-6 ahead of the uninvited intermission.

When the two teams came back on the field early in the second quarter, Hopkins proceeded to score 16 more unanswered points to go up 32-6 at halftime.

The Vikings scored two more TDs in the second half, and perhaps for the first time in its storied history, made all of its six two-point conversion attempts. Featured in the offensive fireworks was a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trevor Smith to Colin Weber.

Hopkins now is 5-0 for the season overall and will close out the regular season next Friday against Kelloggsville, which lost 60-0 to Belding. The Vikings defeated Belding 34-28 in the Silver Showdown on Oct. 9.

Hopkins is riding a 16-game winning streak against O-K Silver opponents, dating back to the last game of the 2017 season.
