Vikings score 1st hoops victory for new coach Jewitt

The Hopkins boys’ basketball team Friday night captured new coach Jake Jewitt’s first varsity victory with a 65-59 decision over Allendale.

Jewitt said the Vikings came back from being down 10 at halftime to win at Allendale.
Tyler Zomerlie led the Vikings with 21 points. Hunter Lewellyn added 17 points, and Nolan Smith contributed 11.
“Defense and resilience were key to cutting into the halftime deficit and gaining the lead down the stretch,” the coach said.
The victory came on the heels of a tough loss at the buzzer to Comstock Park in the season opener last Tuesday.
The next game for Hopkins, now 1-1 overall, is Wednesday evening, Dec. 27, against Hamilton.
