The Hopkins varsity boys’ basketball won Tuesday tonight on the road at Buchanan, 54-37.
Cruz Hitzler led the Vikings with 14 points. Seth Marshall and Merek Zapolnik chipped in 13 apiece. Trent Smith added 7.
Hopkins led throughout the contest at the quarter stops, 12-1, 20-19 and 35-27,
“After knocking off some first game rust, we had a strong second half to pull away from Buchanan,” coach Jake Jewett said. “With 15 points in the third and 19 in the final quarter, that’s the kind of scoring we need more consistently.
“We saw a lot of different defenses tonight, and I like how the guys responded. That should help us down the stretch of the season.“
The coach said newcomer to the varsity team, junior Seth Marshall, had a stellar game, finishing with 13 points and grabbing several key rebounds.
The Vikings play next at home vs. Three Rivers Tuesday, Dec. 3.
