What a day for both Hopkins High School track teams!
Both the girls’ and boys’ squads came up with three dual meet victories over Wyoming Godwin Heights, Comstock Park and Grandville Calvin Christian.
Even more impressive was that it wasn’t even close for both teams. The boys beat Calvin Christian 107-29, Comstock Park 102-32 and Godwin 96-32. The girls prevailed 100-28 over Calvin Christian, 111-13 over Comstock Park and 94-30 over Godwin.
Perhaps the biggest news of the day, however, was that junior Jacob Holder broke the school record in the open 400-meter run, crossing the finish line in 50.65 seconds.
But there were other heroes.
Kaden Edwards won the 800-meter run in 2:13.42.
Sophomore Jack Estelle took the 1600 in 4:48.13.
Kenyon Katje was first in the 3200 in 11:46.32.

The Viking 400-meter relay team of Braydon Harnish, Gage Martin, Landen Kline and Malachi Navis won with a time of 45.16 seconds. Ditto for the 800 relay quartet of Thaddeus VanDenBerg, Navis and Martin in 1:37.67. Ditto yet again for Matthew Guzman, Edwards, Elder and VanDenBerg in the 1600 relay in 3:46.03. And for the fourth time, the 3200 relay of Edwards, Ryan Williams, Elder and Estelle in 9:06.21.
Joshua Maule and Noah Opolski went 2-3 in the discus.
School record holder Landen Klinge won the pole vault at 13-0 and Helder checked second by clearing 10-6.
Zac Wierenga went 18-07 and Klinge 18-05 to go 1-2 in the long jump.

Jaeden Harshberger won the open 400 in 1:05.01, but the bigger news was that she cleared 5-2 to win the high jump.
Kambria Moored claimed another victory in the 110-meter high hurdles, in 17.08 seconds. She and freshman teammate Andrea Brewer were first and second, respectively. With the winning time of 50.21 seconds.

Navy Ingle, Cleypool, Harshberger and Moored combined efforts to win the 1600 relay in 4:42.83. Lillian VandenBosch, Myah Duinstra, Grace Schumacher and Kaylee Katje were alone in the 3200 relay.
Freshman Keilah Bonga won the discus with a throw of 103 feet.
Sophomore Ellarie Baugh was the only pole vaulter to go as high as seven feet and she won the long jump at 15-01.
