The Hopkins varsity football team suffered its third consecutive loss Friday night, 42-6 at Wyoming Godwin Heights.
The loss also dropped the Vikings’ O-K Silver record to 0-2 while Godwin now is 3-1 overall.
The Wolverines streaked to three touchdowns and a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter, highlighted by a couple scoring aerials of 65 yards and 30 yards from quarterback Susu Davenport to to Kelvyn Valdez and a 77-yard run by Brian Foster.
Foster struck again in the second period with a 76-yard romp and Davenport and Valdez hooked up again for a 6-yard scoring strike, as Godwin enjoyed a 35-0 advantage at intermission.
The Vikings registered their only TD of the night in the third quarter when Mason Schaendorf went into the end zone from a yard out. However, their two-point conversion attempt failed, extending that unwanted futility streak to 11 in a row.
Then the Davenport-to-Valdez connection erupted for the fourth time of the evening, this one for 57 yards, to polish off the evening’s scoring.
Hopkins opened the season by beating Newaygo 36-12 in the opener at Davenport University, but since then has dropped a couple of close encounters by less than a touchdown before Friday night’s blowout loss.
The Vikings will be back on the home turf for homecoming Friday evening against North Pointe Christian (3-1).
