Wayland 7th-grader tied for 1st in the state in pole vault

Wayland Middle School seventh-grader Evie Mathis is tied for first in the State of Michigan for all middle schoolers and the top seventh-grader in the state in the pole vault. Mathis, daughter of Rick and Cindy Mathis, Monday afternoon cleared 8-6 to tie for best performance this year with eighth-grader Gracie Warner of Shepherd Middle School. She also is currently tied for fourth in the nation for seventh-graders, as well. Tim Rose is the jumps coach for Wayland, but Evie attends Landon Athletics in Vermontville for specialized training.
