Wayland boys compete in annual MITCA track meet

The Wayland boys’ track squad took part in the annual Michigan Track Coaches Association (MITCA) meet Friday at Berrien Springs.

A total of 16 teams competed in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

MITCA scoring is different than in customary meets First place in an event is worth 30 points, second place 29 points, third place 28, and so on. Three athletes per team are allowed to participate in each event.

Frankenmuth appeared to be the winner of the girls’ competition and Battle Creek Harper Creek was barely ahead of Jackson County Western for the guys’ meet title. Wayland checked in sixth in team points total, with 1183. Harper Creek had 1590.

Perhaps the highlight of the meet for the Wildcats was that Austin won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.75, and the 300-meter hurdles in 38.42 seconds, both his personal best performances.

Ace Wayland thrower Adam Huff captured first place in the discus at 166-3. He finished second to Brennan Faber, a thrower from Jackson County Western in the shot put, checking in at 55-3.5.

Freshman Xander Stepek

800-meter relay eighth with Jake Reeder, Austin Graham, Geno Wierckz and Aiden Reeder, 1:33.42.

Dylan Pallett 12th in the 1600-meter run, a personal best 4:36.28.

3200-meter relay 13th with Pallett, Breslin Vandenbos, Maurgan Howard and Xander Stepek, 8:38.35.

Carter Marquard eighth in the high jump, 5-11.

Justin Springs was seventh in the long jump at 20-0.5. Geno Wierckz 15th.

Breslin Vandenbos 13th in the 800-meter run, 2:02.38. Dylan Pallett 19th.

The Wayland 1600-meter quartet was 12th, with Breslin VandenbosDergaso LarsenMaurgan Howard and Aidan Reeder.
