Both the Wayland High School boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams finished in sixth place at the latest O-K Gold Conference jamboree Tuesday afternoon at Wayland Middle School.

The boys’ squad accumulated 152 points, besting Kenowa Hills and Thornapple Kellogg. Forest Hills Eastern won with 66 and Cedar Springs was second with 75.

Forest Hills Eastern also won the girls’ race with 52 points and Middleville was runner-up with 92. The Lady Wildcats had 143, finishing ahead of Grand Rapids Catholic Central and Kenowa Hills.

Wayland sophomore Travis Koon paced his team with a time of 17:50 over the five-kilometer course, good for ninth place. Freshman Isaac Dyer had a terrific race, taking 14th in 18:02.37. Devin Weaver was 37th in 19:23.7 and freshmen Casey Jansen and James Butler were 49th and 50th, respectively.

Three Ottawa Hills girls took all three top spots in the girls’ competition. Freshman Ava Makowski and sophomore Olivia Barabas took eighth and ninth, respectively, for the Lady Wildcats, in 20:34.81 and 20:50.97. Hannah Smith finished 40th, Elliot Antel 42nd and Emma Thayer 51st.
